One of the things that makes Megnut difficult hard is that I know who reads it - and that kills the anonymity sometimes.

Enjoying San Francisco

October 29, 1999 in

I should be working but some friends came into town and have reduced my productivity to 0. I blame Matt. This means I'm leaving the office to hit the streets, enjoy the weather, and most likely, spend some money I don't have.

A giggly day

October 29, 1999 in

I'm kind of hungover, more tired actually, and I've got the giggles. Worse than earlier this week. This week has been one of my silliest weeks in a while. Anyway, pb's report rant made me laugh and laugh and laugh. Till tears came out of my eyes. I don't really know why. It's just that kind of day.

Flipping the bird

October 28, 1999 in

While driving with Sailu to get supplies for our Halloween costumes, a woman cut us off, and I gave her The Finger. And then I realized, I don't ever give anyone The Finger! In fact, I can't remember doing it before, at least since I've been "grown-up." I think I'm going to start giving The Finger more.

The loss of a Blue Angel

October 28, 1999 in

Blue Angels jet crashes. Wow, it was only a few weeks ago that I saw their show from a rooftop on Lombard Street.

A gripe

October 27, 1999 in

I hate it when things don't move as fast as I want them to.

Still MIA Amazon books

October 27, 1999 in

No books. I feel like an e-commerce sucka. :(

MIA Amazon books

October 27, 1999 in

I've ordered a lot of books from Amazon over the past...well...long time and never experienced a problem. Until now. I received an email on Monday October 18 saying my order had been shipped. Hasn't arrived yet. I sent an email yesterday morning, haven't heard anything back. Is it possible that all this time Amazon was getting us hooked in, and now they've switched the whole thing to some giant internet book scam? Nah...I'm going to go upstairs and see if maybe my books were delivered this afternoon. Wish me luck!

Kunstler's Home From Nowhere

October 27, 1999 in

I started reading Home From Nowhere awhile ago and put it down for some reason. I grabbed it this morning as I headed out the door and was again awash with thoughts. James Kunstler provides a great articulation of what's wrong with current urban and suburban development practices, how they weaken our society, and how to improve them.

Bad web user experience

October 26, 1999 in

Why isn't there more client-side form validation on the web? It's so irritating to have to go back and fill something in, especially when they don't point out where you failed to provide the required information!

Yummy megnut

October 26, 1999 in

When people ask me about megnut, I always say it's filled with "carefully chosen and delicately prepared morsels of web goodness!" - well maybe not always *carefully* chosen, but definitely always delicately prepared.

pb's great redesign

October 25, 1999 in

pb's redesign is brilliant! View onfocus through the designs of other weblogs. Very cool.

Time off is good time

October 25, 1999 in

Wow, a weekend without posting, and a mostly weekend without work. What a treat!

Don't Ask Jeeves

October 22, 1999 in

pb and I both think that Jeeves is an idiot. He never answers anything correctly! And he looks so snooty. What a turn-off! Are we supposed to be impressed by the rich fancy-pants British overtones or think he went to Oxford or something? Ok, maybe I'm being a little silly. I feel silly right now.

Keeping the private thoughts private

October 22, 1999 in

I've been observing and contemplating the ebb and flow of blog posting lately. Sometimes it seems nearly every thought leads to a post, other times, like now, days seem to pass and I find I have nothing to say. Maybe because I'm busy at work? Not likely, I'm always busy at work. Maybe because I've been in a bit of a funk lately? I think sometimes the thoughts the churn in my brain are external, public-type thoughts, and those are the thoughts that lead to posts. And right now, my thoughts just seem to be more private. I guess some thoughts are just for me.

How about 48 hours is one day?

October 20, 1999 in

There's not enough time in one day, I've decided.

That's some true talking

October 19, 1999 in

As my old friend pb always says, "he's not the only oyster in the fryer!"

Two takes on the time capsule

October 19, 1999 in

"The International Time Capsule Society estimates that more than ten thousand people and institutions have buried time capsules. They must think that future archeologists will be grateful for the bounty of twentieth-century wristwatches, telephone books, decorative caps, CD-ROM's, and ampules of Budweiser beer." - Faster, by James Gleick. Trying to follow the horror

October 18, 1999 in

ESPN's GameCast is a really cool way to watch baseball over the web. I wish they had it for football, but it doesn't look like it.

Boo Sox

October 18, 1999 in

Some days I wish I weren't from Boston. Today is one of those days. Yesterday was also one.

Drat that El Duque

October 18, 1999 in

Listening live from work - I hate El Duque!

A non-rant

October 18, 1999 in

Rather than add to the ranting, I'll just point you to Ev's rant about Gazooba and just add one thought: if my already over-flowing inbox becomes inundated with emails from "friends" pointing me to myriad web sites, I'm going to be very very upset.

Boo Red Sox

Kozmo is kool

October 16, 1999 in

This is what I've been waiting for: rent a movie on the web, have it delivered to your door in less than an hour! [Available in most San Francisco neighborhoods.] What's cool is they also have books and food, all delivered in under an hour. Talk about instant gratification for the laziest of souls...

Sox beat the Yanks!

October 16, 1999 in

Yippeee RedSox!!!! Woo hoo!! 12 to 1. :)

Communicating with moviefone

October 15, 1999 in

Hmmm...so of course I sent an email to moviefone about what happened. Here's what I got back:

Nobody said it was easy to order movie tickets online

October 15, 1999 in

Argh! This is terribleI just tried to order movie tickets at moviefone. While I was waiting for my transaction to be approved, my connection with the server was *reset*. Then I searched all over the site, in vain, to find a help section. Nothing. There was no place on the site to find out what happened to my order. Talk about poor design! I finally called American Express to find out if the transaction went through.

Tony Hawk is my favorite

October 15, 1999 in

Today's pic of the day on evhead is from that magical day when Tony Hawk pulled the first 900 ever. Seeing the photos brings back nice memories. Ahh, dreamy Tony Hawk- this is fascinating.

Out of touch with reality and the Red Sox

October 15, 1999 in

Last night I had a terrible realization that I'm very disconnected from reality. I don't know what day of the week it is, and I don't know what the date is. Here I was, all excited for the American League Championship, Sox vs. Yankees, I even have the game schedule printed out and sitting on my desk. Last night, my friend Rolyn asked if I wanted to watch the games this weekend. I said, "Oh, that series doesn't start until next week." No said Rolyn, it's already begun, the Sox lost the first game. Impossible I said, the first game isn't until the 13th! Oops, today's the 15th. I thought we were still in the single digits of the month.

Wondering what it's all for

October 14, 1999 in

I only caught part of The Forgotten 14 Million on the radio, but what I heard nearly moved me to tears. 1 in 5 American children is growing up poor, as VC's throw money at the next eOnline.com, as the stock market surges ahead. I wonder, what am I *really* doing to change the world? [thanks for the link, pb]

Go Boston, kick Yankee butt!

October 12, 1999 in

I can't believe THIS! After '86, after every season where I watched the Olde Towne Team go to pieces in post-season play, I had barely hoped. And now to play the Yankees...and Clemens...I can't wait! I'm already getting nervous!

I'm ready for a food pill

The problem with food is that most of the time it's a pain in the butt.

If only I had the time to say what I meant

October 11, 1999 in

Apologies for the lack of updates around here lately, feels like I don't have much to say these days, or if I do, it seems like it's really long and will take too long to write down. Maybe that will change...

But what does this mean?

October 07, 1999 in

Things are *really* happening!!!!

So smart that pb

I think I'd like to join pb's new school of Zen based on XML. Sounds like just my kind of thing.

A redesigned Pyra.com for you

October 06, 1999 in

New web site New web site New web site!!!! Pyra.com: redesigned and better smelling. [I seem to be repeating a lot these days, I wonder if my mind is becoming unstable? Or more unstable than usual?]

A scary thought

October 06, 1999 in

Walking to work, I passed a group of people standing outside the building next to ours. It happens to house Quokka.com. For some reason, I pictured a new SOMA industry: "Maps to the Start-ups' Homes" and imagined this was the tour..."Now, on your left you can see the headquarters of Wired, and down the street, we'll stop at Pets.Com. This way, please..."

Interesting Boston fact

Challenge your brain

October 02, 1999 in

I'd "played" Craig's U2 brain teaser a while ago. I redid it tonight, sure is fun! Can you figure it out?
